How It All Started
The idea behind Makera was born out of frustration.
In 2018, software engineer Josh stared at another ruined RC plane part - a victim of clunky software, flying sawdust, and ear-splitting noise.
The dream of effortless creation seemed impossible.
"Digital tools should empower creativity, not hinder it!"
Teaming up with two fellow makers, he launched Makera to reinvent desktop CNC machines, powerful vet intuitive tools for everyone.
The team dedicated two entire years to developing their first desktop CNC machine and finally launched Carvera, which rebuilt everything.
The name blends “Maker" and “Era," symbolizing a new age of accessible innovation through A and smart design.
Today, 'Digital Fabrication' philosophy is empowering a new generation of creators globally, from Brooklyn jewelers to Los Angeles RC builders, proving that precision and simplicity can coexist.

Innovation Journey
- 2019 – Makera was founded, assembling a team of makers to develop a desktop CNC machine.
- September 2021 – Makera launched Carvera, the world's first smart desktop CNC, on Kickstarter, attracting 588 backers and raising over $1.7 million.
- April 2024 – Makera introduced Carvera Air, securing 2,098 backers and raising over $3.47 million, making it the most beloved desktop CNC among DIY enthusiasts.
- February 2025 – Makera officially released a powerful and free CAM software, enabling users to bring their ideas to life more easily and efficiently.
- September 2025 - Makera Z1 received “Best in Content Creation” at the IFA Innovation Awards
- October 2025, Makera's launch of its entry-level smart CNC machine, the Z1, achieved a record-breaking $10.24 million in Kickstarter funding.
