2. Frequently Asked Questions
1. Makera Studio crashes when entering the Design workspace on Windows
Symptoms:
Makera Studio launches normally, but closes unexpectedly or crashes when you enter the Design workspace.
Possible cause:
This issue is commonly related to graphics-driver compatibility. It is more likely to occur on older Intel integrated graphics hardware.
Solution
-
Open the Start Menu and go to the Makera Studio folder.
-
Launch the Graphics Compatibility Settings utility.
-
Select DX12 or CPU Rendering mode.
-
Launch Makera Studio and verify that it runs normally.
-
For future use, simply launch Makera Studio directly. The compatibility settings only need to be configured once.
3. Toolpath calculation takes an unusually long time on Windows
Symptoms:
Toolpath calculation takes more than five minutes, even for relatively small or simple designs.
Solution:
-
Start the toolpath calculation, then open Task Manager.
-
Go to the Performance tab and review CPU and GPU activity.
-
Confirm that the GPU is recognized correctly and that its utilization changes during the calculation.
-
If the GPU is not being used properly, GPU utilization remains abnormally low, or the driver is outdated, update the relevant graphics driver and try again.

For laptops, use the graphics driver provided by the computer manufacturer first if a generic driver cannot be installed or causes compatibility issues.
If the issue continues after updating the driver, please collect the following information before contacting technical support:
-
Computer model and Windows version
-
CPU and GPU models, along with the graphics driver version
-
Screenshots of the toolpath calculation screen and the Task Manager Performance tab
-
The affected project file or steps to reproduce the issue
4. Microsoft Defender SmartScreen warning appears when launching Makera Studio for the first time
Symptoms:
When you run the Makera Studio installer or application for the first time, Windows may display an “unknown app” or security warning.
Explanation:
This warning is commonly related to the application reputation mechanism used by Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. It does not necessarily mean that the installer is unsafe.
How to verify the installer:
-
Right-click the installer and select Properties.
-
Open the Digital Signatures tab.
-
Confirm that the signer is:
Beijing Zaowu Shidai Technology Co., Ltd.
-
If the digital signature is valid and the publisher name matches, you can proceed with installation or launch the application.
-
Do not continue if the signature is missing, invalid, or signed by a different publisher. Download the installer again from an official source.
